Buying Policy

We buy books Tuesday - Friday 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

• We are looking for books that are in good shape, and that we don't already have on the shelves.
• Paperbacks should have uncreased spines and covers.
• Hard cover books need to have intact dust jackets, unless they are antiquarian.
• In the genre fiction categories (romance, science fiction, fantasy, mystery, spy/war) we buy paperbacks and trade paperbacks only. We will buy a hardcover or a paperback in any of our nonfiction categories, as well as in Canadian literature, Classic literature, Contemporary literature, Children's books, or Young Adult books.
• We buy Travel Guides, Business, Medicine, and Self Help books only if they have been published in the last TWO years.
• We do not buy or carry magazines, encyclopedias, textbooks, or Harlequin romances.

For any books that we buy, we will offer a price in cash or double that price in store credit. Store credit does not need to be used the day you bring books in, does not have to be used all at once, and has no expiry date.

Return/Refund Policy
We do not give cash refunds for any books purchased from Old Strathcona Books. Upon return of any book purchased from us, we would be pleased to write you a credit for half of the purchase price (provided the dog hasn't tried to eat it).
